Faced with new development opportunities, Da Nang's tourism industry is showing a strong determination to solidify its position as a major tourism hub in Asia. Building on a remarkable performance in 2025 and positive signs since the beginning of 2026, the city is implementing strategic measures to maintain double-digit growth.
Sustained growth and record figures
According to the Municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 2025 marked a historic milestone for the sector. Accommodation establishments welcomed over 17.7 million visitors, an 18% year-on-year increase. International arrivals rose by 25%, reaching 7.6 million, while domestic Vietnamese arrivals totaled 10.1 million. Total revenue from accommodation, food, and travel services exceeded 57.3 trillion VND.
This momentum continued into 2026. During the first four months of the year, the city welcomed nearly 6 million visitors (+19.2%), including 3.4 million foreign tourists. During the recent holidays marking the Hung Kings Festival, Southern Liberation Day and National Reunification Day (April 30), and International Workers' Day (May 1), Da Nang recorded 1.46 million tourists, generating approximately 5.7 trillion VND in revenue.
Currently, 27 air routes are operated, including 20 regular international connections linking the city to the Republic of Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
However, Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the Municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, points out that several challenges remain. Overcrowding is observed at some iconic sites, such as the Han Market, the Dragon Bridge, and the ancient town of Hoi An. Furthermore, the offerings for the high-end segment remain limited, while the infrastructure in rural areas of western Vietnam still requires improvements to facilitate the creation of interconnected tourist circuits.
A comprehensive and sustainable development strategy
To achieve its double-digit growth target, Da Nang's tourism sector is relying on a structured roadmap. The city is gradually expanding its tourist area into satellite zones, combining urban modernity, cultural values, and ecological resources.
The tourism offer is being restructured around specific products such as high-end stays, business tourism (MICE) and golf, but also new niches such as medical tourism, weddings and the night economy.
Infrastructure development is also a key driver of this growth. The city plans to modernize Da Nang International Airport, expanding Terminals 1 and 2, and transform Tien Sa Port into a specialized tourist port. Several major projects, including the Ngu Hanh Son Cultural Park and the International Fireworks Complex, are expected to be launched soon to further enhance the destination's appeal.
Safety and the environment remain top priorities. Local authorities are committed to ensuring the safety of maritime activities and preventing landslides in mountainous areas. Particular emphasis is also placed on maintaining a clean urban environment and combating unfair business practices, in order to reinforce the image of a modern and civilized city.
Finally, to further boost the international market, the tourism sector is proposing measures to facilitate visa access for high-income segments. Through this strategy, which combines innovation, modern infrastructure, and flexible mechanisms, Da Nang aims to consolidate its status as a leading global tourist destination. Synergy between authorities, businesses, and the public remains key to ensuring the sustainable development of local tourism. -VNA
